HIGHLIGHTS / INNOVATIVE PRACTICES OF THE DEPARTMENT

 

The Dept. was established in 1884 and it's as old as the institution.

 

* Institution of a memorial prize (Rs. 1000/-) for the best outgoing English Lit. Student. The prize is sponsored by Sri V.Srinivasa Rao, former faculty of our Dept. in memory of his Teacher Sri G.L.Prabhakara Rao, an eminent Lecturer in English of this College.

 

* Smt. Tata Tirumalamba Memorial Cash prizes worth 10,500/- to be awarded to the best B.A. English Lit. Students of III, II & I years - Instituted by Dr. T.K.V. Srinivasa Rao, GDC Principal & former faculty of our department, in memory of his mother.

 

* The Dept. runs a whatsapp group for sharing daily "Contemporary English Vocabulary" (Walking Vocab.) of the staff/students to increase word power. * The Dept. runs "English corner", a wall journal to improve Spoken English and vocabulary of the students.

 

* Sharing of e-newspaper to the students group and to the faculty forum.

 

* A Certificate course in Spoken English for house wives and Job seekers.

 

* A free Type writing course provided in association with JKC.

 

* Ours is the only college in and around Kakinada offering UG English Literature course.

 

* Well-equipped English Language Lab.

 

Virtual and Digital Class rooms.

 

* The dept. converts print text into mp3 format and supplies it to the students to improve their listening skills - a great learning source for visually challenged students.

 

* The department extensively uses digital medium to impart English Skills to the students.

 

* Contemporary teaching learning resources such as newspapers clippings, telecasts/broadcasts, films, documentaries, BBC learn English etc.

             

              English department  faculty uses the following IT methods to improve the standards especially the spoken skills of the students.
